What is this?

Anime Kenja is a "Anime Search Engine" being developed by individual.
You can search anime or character with some keywords by full text search engine. You can choose keywords for example "high school" or "light music club" or something like that. Of course you can search with "k on" as name or "kyoto animation" as studio. Also staffs and seiyu san (声優さん voice actors) are indexed.
By the way, index is English only. Other languages can't be used as keywords.

Also, Anime Kenja contains precomputed vectors of texts, images. You can search similar anime or character by vector serach engine. Vector search is useful for searching animes with similar "vibes", or searching chracters with similar features. For example, once you found "Rei" with full text search, you can find characters with "blue hair" with image vecotr search.
But again, vectors are "vibes" as a lot of things are mixed in a vector. If you have a specific name in your mind, full text search is generally better.

Who are you?

I'm a programmer living in a japanese town where is about 45 minutes by train from Akihabara station of Tokyo.

By the way, actually my town have a anime.

Although it is not popular as "seichi" (聖地 anime's real location).

Why is this exist?

Because I just wanted a easy tool for searching animes.
Once you watched a lot of animes on video streaming paltform, their recommendation systems become full of titles that you already watched. It's the nature of recommendation systems.
Then, searching anime have to be "brute force". I did, from A to Z. It might be fun for the first and last time, but actually you have to do for several times. Because our "mood" varies for weeks.

Second reason is that I wanted to create search engine independent from reviews nor recommendation systems tied with our watching anime history. Reading reviews is fun. But I sometimes don't wanted to read them before watching the title.
I can say same thing to recommendation systems. We tend to watch same new titles when recommendation system is on. It's fun. But I sometimes want to "dig" legacy animes and believe that you too.

When should I use this?

First, Anime Kenja is NOT good for getting infomations about new animes. Instead, its purpose is to help finding relatively old titles.
Second, Anime Kenja is NOT good for catching up current popular big titles. It needs some your ideas and hands for searching.
Third, Anime Kenja is NOT good for finding animes with surprising story lines. Because its index is not enough to contain spoilers.
I generally recommend MyAnimeList for these kind of ordinary needs, because I never meant to replace MyAnimeList. Also I recommend to use Anime Kenja with MyAnimeList side by side, because Anime Kenja lacks a lot of things that MyAnimeList provides.

What does kenja mean?

Kenja (賢者) means wise person or philosopher. I took the word from "kenja time" (賢者 タイム).
